Feeding the Homeless
FTHP serves food every Saturday of every week of the year, no exceptions. Since 2006, they have prepared well over 50,000 hot meals and served them directly on the streets of Atlanta. The day starts before dawn as teammates join to build a portable kitchen on the designated street. As the sun comes up, the volunteers pass out hot coffee to the line of 150 to 200 people waiting to be served. As they move through the serving line, volunteers serve and interact with them.
By participating in the Saturday morning serving sessions, the Atlanta team is breaking down the fear and resistance held by many. They help to build trust amongst their fellow citizens who find themselves without the shelter and the conveniences that others have grown accustomed to. In doing so, the Atlanta team has also received an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for the blessings that they have in their own lives.
